I know this topic has been mentioned/discussed in the past but I feel it is necessary to resurface it given the number of journals & reviews that do not include photographs that are being awarded "Best Of" recognition.
I believe strongly that the inclusion of photos is essential to tell the story, and to help travelers appreciate a particular destination or attraction. To reward contributors for efforts that omit this critical aspect does the overall IgoUgo community a disservice.
To be honest, some of the "Best Of" reviews I've read recently seem to be little more than a regurge of other content found on the internet. The absence of photos often leaves me wondering if the contributor has really ever been to the place they are writing about.
I encourage the IgoUgo editorial staff to reconsider the qualifications to be considered for "Best Of IgoUgo" status and make photos a mandatory component for the award given to reviews. stories/tips and journals.
p.s. I know this isn't "Site Help" per se, but I wasn't sure what other forum may be more appropriate.

While it's true we do not require a review to have a photo attached (or a photo submission to have a review attached) to receive a "Best Of" designation, we do appreciate when they come in as a complete package. There are times when a review receives a Best Of and the photo is attached at a later time. (There are many excellent photos that do not have reviews, but, of course, are attached to the business listing as well.)
Perhaps we will consider having a new category for those submissions with both reviews and photos. It's a great suggestion and something to work on. Yvonne, thanks for the input.

Thanks for the response Terre. I really do not feel another category is necessary. While I believe photos can be evaluated on their own merit and awarded "Best Of" recognition, I do not feel a review or journal is "the best" if they do not have photos to illustrate the author's writings.
If a really good review/journal is submitted and subsequently has a photo attached, it would be my suggestion that at that time, the "Best Of" recognition would we given. That is how the added 50pt bonus is applied to reviews that have photos added subsequently.
Just my opinion.

Photos do get my attention. Although I have no strong feelings one way or the other, I will say that I have read many good books that don't have photos but are written so well I don't need them. I don't think I write very "flowery" or descriptive enough sometimes so I use my photos to help tell the story. Others are simply excellent writers that I strive to be like someday. You, Yvonne, are one such example.

Well thank you for the compliment!
Good to see you're back writing for IgoUgo; your recent reviews from Costa Rica are inspiring, although I'm still not sure I could take on zip-lining.

I agree Von. It is to easy to go get information on a place and write about it. I mean I can look up information on Las Vegas and come up with a Vegas journal. But pictures used to be required and there is a better chance with a picture required, that the person actually went there and is not just rehashing easy to find facts.
