Can anyone recommend the most economical way to reach the Faroe Islands? I am looking for a way to get there quickly, yet not have to pay the high airfares from Europe, and not have to take a slow boat from Iceland.

On the back of a pilot whale? No, I forgot, they kill those don't they. It might not be a good idea.
It's a controversial destination - I believe they have great bird watching but those photos of harbours swimming in the blood of dead whales really make you think twice about whether it's a place to support with your tourist dollars/euros/kroner etc.
