I have been planning for an adventure tour to Tanzania for some time and would highly appreciate any advice in this regard. I hope to include Mozambique as well in my trip and explore the adventure and recreation potential of this place. Apart form the African safari, I would like to do a little of trekking, hiking and climbing as well in the region. Any suggestions for luxury accommodations are also welcome. Here is a tour I thought might be worth considering: http://www.ekoventure.com/trips/africa-tanzania-mikumi_national_park-bird_watching-luxury_travel-photography-safari-walking-wildlife_tours-exploration-luxury-active_sport-acacia-sun-adventures-16360

I don't know where to start. I went on my first safari to Tanzania in February, but in Northern Tanzania, not the southern areas you are considering. In the north, you could climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and you can hike to several craters in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. I'm not sure you you find those opportunities in the south. But Mozambique is very intriguing, but I only know a little bit about the beach resorts. You could probably find their equal on Zanzibar or Pemba. For luxury adventure accomoodations, you would certainly want to consider some of the tented camps. They have them in the Serengeti; I'm not sure about the south.
I guess my best advice is to at least ask the travel agent I used for some ideas. Go to www.africaserendipity.com. Sandi is very knowledgeable on Tanzania and Kenya and should also be able to point you in the right direction on Mozambique. I don't think she'll add to your costs because she has deals with tour companies that will offset her fees with better prices on the tours. You can also call her NYC number and tell her Dave from Orchard Park sent you.
