From Cabo San Lucas – A Playground for Everyone

Cabo San Lucas sits at the tip of Baja California, the longest and most majestic peninsula in the world, where the sea, sun, and desert create an unbelievable landscape of unspoiled beauty. It's often identified by the world-famous rock formation called El Arco, a geographic landmark where the Pacific Ocean meets the warm water of the Sea of Cortez.

From the airport, it's a 26-mile journey to Cabo via the Carretera Transpeninsular, a well-paved highway also known as "the Corridor" that runs along a picturesque stretch of Baja's most spectacular coast. You'll see the azure-blue Pacific Ocean amidst dramatic outcroppings, white-sand beaches, and arid, desert-like landscape, with a scattering of oceanfront championship golf courses clad in velvet green. The Corridor is also home to a wide range of elegant hotels and luxury resorts.

I thought Cabo San Lucas would be a tranquil fishing village, but times are changing. Although it remains relatively small, with a population of less than 100,000, it's no longer a remote playground solely reserved for the financially privileged. Nowadays, its famous nightlife draws partiers, high rollers, and those generally in search of unforgettable hangovers. Still, those travelers hoping for a quiet, romantic, and relaxing getaway won't be disappointed, either.

Cabo has miles and miles of sugar-white beaches—the kind beach lovers dream about—on both the Pacific coast and the shoreline of the Sea of Cortez. Beaches include the main beach at Playa Medano, the quiet Playa del Amor (Lover's Beach), and countless unpopulated, quiet coves. If you're going to one of the beaches or resorts along the Corridor by bus, the main bus stop is on the corner of Blvd. Lázaro Cárdenas. The drivers will stop just about anywhere by request.

The allure of this Mexican paradise extends even further. Water sports are available everywhere, including waterskiing and snorkeling in the beautiful bays of Santa Maria and Playa Chileno. Cabo has some of the best sport fishing in the world, with marlin, sailfish, dorado, tuna, wahoo, roosterfish, and endless varieties of bottom and surf fish patrolling the waters. You'll also find excellent bargain shopping, mariachis, around-the-clock dining, and six championship golf courses.

With a blissful 78°F (25°C) average year-round temperature, and 350 sunny days annually, Cabo San Lucas makes for an unbelievable vacation spot. ¡Muy bonito!
