This is seclusion at its best. Located adjacent to downtown, it is right near the action but manages to maintain its low key energy. It is a great place to unwind by yourself or with friends, as its welcoming atmosphere and prompt service help to wash away the stress of the day.

This was our favorite bar in college. You can come here and actually be able to talk to the people you came with. The atmosphere is laid-back. The customers consist of a fair number of undergrads and slightly more graduate students. Come early (5-7pm) to get a table and take advantage of low prices for some domestic beers. The Rivermill does get crowded, but not nearly as crowded as the other bars in Blacksburg. Its slightly more out-of-sight location and slightly more sophisticated crowd keeps it this way. Mixed drinks and shots are probably the best at this bar. There is a big screen TV here, usually showing whatever is on ESPN, an area for darts, and four pool tables in the rear section. It is not impossible to get a table here, but there will be a little bit of a wait. If you are travelling to the area and are 30-something or over, or in your 20s and prefer a more laid-back scene, the Rivermill is the place for you. (540) 951-2483
