Greek folklore night at a taverna

I wasn't very keen to go because i thought it will be a fake tourist attraction and not a real folk event. I was so wrong! This turned out to be the most fun night we had on Corfu!

Almost all local tavernas/restaurants offer dance evening once or twice a week where a local dance group performs traditional greek dances. We had a few cocktails and watched the dancers who were quite interesting to watch. Little did we know that in about 15 minutes we would be there dancing around with them. After about 3-4 dances, the girls from the group came to the audience sitting around them at their tables and started asking the girls and women to come dance with them. Of course everyone was shy and hesitated participating, but you just couldn't NOT go, they insisted on you joining them no matter how hard you tried declining their kind offer. So half of the audience was now dancing around with the greeks. The boys and men were of course happily laughing at their women at the tables and sipping their beers peacefully. Little did they know that the next dance was theirs! And not just the dance, the greek dancers showed them some impressive tricks, like how to hold a wooden table with their teeth and the poor men had to do it in front of the happy audience. So about 20 minutes after the show started everyone was dancing, learning moves, carrying tables in their mouth and having much much fun! There is of course a professional photographer there too who takes a picture of everyone in the weirdest dance poses and you can buy the photos (not expensive at all, i was surprised!) later in the evening.

It was a very fun experience!
