Balinese Dance Recital

  • July 30, 2002
  • Rated 3 of 5 by Wouter Kloos from Eindhoven, Netherlands
Included in our daytour was a visit to the Padangtegal Dance Stage to see the famous Bali Dance. This ritual seems very spiritual. It's hard to describe what it looks like, but the music, the drums, it's all very beautiful to see and hear.

Balinese Dance Recital

  • August 13, 2000

The Balinese danced a unique interpretation of the Hindi Ramayana. A chorus of 100 men sat in a circle, cross-legged and chanting. They made throaty noises, while women played the parts of all the characters. The monkey king saved the day on stage, amidst the chanting of the chorus, the special effects, and the dramatic outdoor lighting.

I fell asleep, tired from the day's activities, but woke up when a man in a horse outfit came on-stage and started walking through fiery coals!
