Kipsari is not for the faint-hearted, but if you are really, really curious to see how the design folk enjoy themselves, or you are in the area and you want to sample their huge cheap homemade filled bread rolls or cakes, it's definately worth stopping by. Some evenings there are dj's or even bands and an entrance fee.
Muotoilijankatu turns off Hameentie in the Arabia neighbourhood. The entrance to the bar is at the end of the building (if not coming from inside) before the mondrian-coloured corrugated steel monster. The easiest way to find your way is to take tram 6 to the end stop and walk another 5 min along Hameentie.
The interior is bare and bohemian: the magenta-coloured floor is cool. The selection of tables and chairs is a mishmash of found or received furniture. The cups and dishes have just been renewed, so they are all the same. There is a generous smoking section - the non-smoking tables are indicated with stickers on the scratched, graphic art surfaces. There's always music on, of a somewhat strange kind usually.
But the food is worth mentioning: the bread rolls are huge, well filled and home made. (Fav: lettuce, tuna, capers,& pickles) there's also devilishly tempting cakes and the sort also daily made.
For now (August) it is open from 9 to 3, later on it will be open later.
