It was an evening of a sunny, hot summer day. I had been walking around all day by myself - travelling solo of course - and I had decided to spend a few hours watching a movie. In my hometown there's no possibility to see anything but American movies with Tom Cruise and Bruce Willis starring, so now I wanted to take the oppoturnity to see a movie of my style. And the best part of the thing was that I could do it at the coolest movie theatre of Helsinki, at Bio Rex, located in a building called Lasipalatsi - Glass Palace - which is the most respected building of functional style in Helsinki. It dates back to thirties, and had just been renovated.
So now it was like new, bright white, big glass windows... I sat by Kiasma on the other side of the road, watching the summer evening in Helsinki. The sky started to turn yellow, people were sitting at restaurants and terraces, and I was even able to enjoy the smell of pollution. It smelled like summer in a city. Everything was laid-back, warm, nice, cool.
Inside in Lasipalatsi they had huge movie posters from the 30's on the walls. And the decoration of the functionalist style, of course. Very few people - nobody wanted to spend a beautiful evening inside. I wandered around in the building, read some magazines in the library, concidered drinking tea in the cafe, but ended up just sitting, watching, thinking.
The movie was wonderful of course - it had been described to be a French komedy, more French than the French are. And it sure was. Aurelié, Didier...and no Robert. Rien sur Robert - nothing about Robert! Of course!
I took a tram to my aunt's appartment. It was still light and warm at 11 pm.
