Help

Help is a good name for this club. As I'm sure half of the people that leave the place are going to need it!

Help is apparently the biggest disco in South America, although I hadn't heard much about it before I actually step foot in the place.

It's worth a look inside just to see the wonderfully 70's decor. There isn't just one mirror ball, but the whole balcony is a huge strip of mirror ball - bizarre. It's also worth it to hear the music played by the dj's, certainly a blast from the past!

If you're female and you feel you must go there, be sure to take a man with you! Also girls, don't dress too well or too revealing, as you may blend in with one of the many prostitutes in there (!).

I've been there alone, with a date and with a group of friends. It's obviously a place you can't miss when in Rio — it is a tourist point such as Corcovado or the Sugar Loaf. The main difference is on who are the habituées there. The first step is to take a beer outside the disco, in the terrasse; you'll surely notice that families don't sit there. The custumers are all foreign men and beautiful dark women in tight clothes. They do a kind of socialization there. Then, after midnight, pay about U$ 8 to get in.

The first look inside Help will bring you back to the seventies (check those walls full of coloured glitters!!). But the main remark will be the girls. They dance in a very special way. They don't strip (at least not in the dancefloor!), but it doesn't mean they need to do it to keep your eyes on them. They do 'private dancer' thing Tina Turner once sang.

Besides that, Help is a safe place, where there are no fights, and the atmosphere is fine. Drinks are not so expensive and if you resist all the charming girls begging for your attention and stay there until early in the morning, you'll have the chance to hear nothing less than The Cure, Duran Duran and all those eighty's we all danced once.
