The theater was inaugurated on May 20, 1873 with the opening performance given by famed opera singer Angela Peralta who it is now named after. Several times a week various performers present for a near full house. Everything from ballet to country singing goes on at the theater and you can get a list of coming attractions at the office there on site or at the library. The evening I attended an impressive Mexican Jazz band played and put on quite a show! The crowd was about 3/4 gringos and 1/4 local people making it seem like this is probably done more to promote tourism than for local appreciation. Coffee and deserts are served near the theater entrance during intermission and after the performance. Not exactly New York City but an enjoyable change of pace. I recommend you check it out!
