Cedar Cultural Center

Cedar Cultural Center is a pretty amazing place. Consider that the person who takes your ticket, pours your drink, and ushers you out is in most cases a neighborhood volunteer working to earn credits to see shows for free. Cedar wouldn't exist if not for a strong sense of civic responsibility on the West Bank. This place has become an institution (albeit a slightly shabby one) by booking all varieties of independent music from bands around the world to folk and rock. Ani DiFranco was selling out Cedar years before she was on MTV. Cedar is also available for neighborhood meetings, classes and community groups. But no one goes to the shows out of a sense of duty to the hood, Cedar is a great large venue with an excellent stage and sound system.
