Spa Toccare

Spa Toccare

Located on the second floor of the Borgata, Spa Toccare (pronounced toh-CAR-ay) is a tranquil environment that feels miles away from a bustling casino.

After signing in at reception, guests are directed to the men's or women's spa, where they are assigned a locker containing a robe, handed spa sandals in their size, and usually given a tour of the facilities. I arrived just a few minutes before my first service, so I didn't get the guided tour.

My first treatment was a "dynamic duo" version of the Toccare Touch massage, booked in the spa suite. The private suite was comprised of a bathroom with shower, service area (massage tables), hot tub, and furnished lounge with a fireplace.

Although it was a nice space, the first thing I noticed was the sweltering temperature in the room. The non-adjustable thermostat read nearly 80 degrees, and was in an area separate from the treatment tables, which were located next to the 105-degree hot tub. Even unclothed, the temperature was almost unbearable. My technician, Kathy, tried to call the CIS department to adjust it, to no avail. For this reason alone I wouldn't recommend the spa suite services, which come with 30 minutes of relaxation time after your treatment. The massage itself was nice, but I was a bit sore between my shoulder blades the following day.

Another shortcoming of the suite was the lack of body wash. The bottle was left empty in the shower, and there was no way to summon a spa employee for assistance. One would have to go through the co-ed area in only a robe. Also, the hairbrush provided was not new or in any type of solution, like Barbicide. This could be a health violation.

I also had the signature facial, the Borgata Glow. The treatment, and my technician, Colleen, were both wonderful. I also appreciated the soft-sell approach to purchasing spa products. Colleen wrote down her suggestion for me and told me where in the spa I could complete the purchase. (Spa therapists elsewhere have led me straight to the product counter after my treatment.)

Overall, the spa experience was relaxing and pleasant. The facilities were nice, and included separate, gender-specific hot tubs, saunas, and lounges. Unlimited fruit and healthy beverages were also included.

I would return to Spa Toccare, but would skip the uncomfortable and poorly appointed spa suite.

The Borgata is the Las Vegas of Atlantic City. This place is truly unrivaled against all of the other casino's in terms of awe factor. Once you walk into the Borgata you get that Vegas feel. All of the gaming tables have high tech equipment, the waitresses are beautiful, and the energy is second to none.

There are hundreds and hundreds of slots to choose from. The slot machines in the Borgata do not dispense coins, but instead they give you a sheet of paper with a bar code. This ticket is then able to be used in any other slot on the floor or can be taken to the cashier to be paid out. I love this because now I don't have to constantly wash my hands from those dirty coins. On the other hand money does go much quicker when you are losing and there is no way to really slow down and put your coins in one by one.

As for table games they have the best of everything, with plenty of tables to choose from. All of the roulette wheels use high tech display screens to clearly see the winning numbers. In the evening on the weekends all of the table games minumum bets are pushed up. Usually to about a $25 minimum per bet.

Also at the Borgata you have 11 restaurants to choose from. Finding a bar is easy if you would like to take a break from gambling. The hotel also has a spa, salon, barbershop, gift shop, jewelry store, and a couple of clothing boutiques.

Next time we come to Atlantic City this is the place we are going to come to. Since I can't always get to Vegas, I am glad the Borgata brought Vegas here.
