For the ultimate in dance celebrations, the ever-popular Mama Afrika is my top pick. Boasting the best crowds and lasting until the latest hours, you can sit on comfy, candle-lit couches or hit the jam-packed dance floor, backed by Latin, reggae, rock, techno, electronic, even '80s beats.

Mama Amerika, not to be fooled with Mama Afrika (although the two once shared owners), has long out lived its days as a party hot spot. The crowd is not nearly as stellar as its competitors’ and is locally known for Bricheros (Peruvians specifically on the lookout for Gringos).

The food is supposed to be really good though, although I cannot attest from first-hand experience.

Cool backpackers discotec. It's really the only place that is going off every night for backpackers. They don't allow locals in (except for some women) so it's safe, but you end up partying with a bunch of foreigners. Great eclectic music, the DJ is good and mixes it up very well. Cheap drinks as well. Gets a bit smokey inside though.

This is a really nice place, especially if you like salsa -- they have free salsa lessons every day from 9 to 10 pm!! After that, they play samba and then European music.

Mama Africas is a popular disco at night, which shows recent release movies in the day. Drinks are reasonably priced, and food is also served although it is not recommended.
