New Mission Theatre, established 1916 is a city landmark #245, an ornate, 2,800-seat theatre, was originally designed by the Reid Brothers and remodelled by Timothy Pflueger. It had better years from its past. It's been allowed to run down and closed in 1993.
I went here when it was still opened on a cold winter evening, and there was no heat inside, so I was freezing and unable to enjoy the movie. The interior showed signs where it was once a grand place. This place wasn't going to stay open without major changes. Later on, a large sign outside said "free heat."
Currently owned by City College of San Francisco (CCSF), they planned for a new campus site. It would be good if this place is restored to its original grandeur as the Castro Theatre has been. This would take commitment of the project with a lot of money.
