Blackfriar's Playhouse

It's the worlds only re-creation of Shakespeare's original Blackfriar's playhouse. This Shakespeare is not the dull lifeless stuff you remember from your high school English class! This is A L I V E! They make it interesting and enjoyable for everyone! I've taken my young children to see their work, and they loved it! You look around and see people sitting in the gallery, in the Lord's Chairs, and even on the Gallant's stools on the stage! The actors "do it with the lights on" as Shakespeare did so many years ago. You are a part of the story, and they incorporate you into their "lives." It truly is an event you will want to repeat!

Shakespeare was meant to be seen and heard- experienced with all your senses, and it is accomplished well here. Your mind is fully engaged, and you actually "get it" - there is no chance to sleep here, you won't be bored! I encourage you to drag even the most stubborn football-watching friends to this, they will love it!

Arrive early, for there is usually a pre-show "ditty" that will have you in stitches! Beer and wine are available during the short intermission, and you can take it to your seat!
Also on some Thursday nights they have "Talk Back" where you can ask questions of the actors after the show! Ask about Talkback.

Shakespearean entertainment in a unique theater in the historic downtown. Good web site:
http://www.ishakespeare.com/

A variety of plays, usually three playing in rotation during a given week. Ticket prices NOT big-city, so you could see all three if you want. Plenty of related educational activities for adults and kids.
