Theatre Sports Improv Comedy Club

The comedy improv was awesome. Before we left, we met our roommate, Phillip, from Germany. He was a really nice kid who just graduated and has never been to the US before. Yesterday was his first day here and he just bought a 21-day West US Discovery Pass from GH, so this morning I gave him a lot of info on hostels, how to get around, and tips on using GH. But last night we asked him to join us in going to the comedy show and he seemed very glad to, since he was traveling alone. The show was at a little hole-in-the-wall place in an alternative, poster-covered alley. It had such an underground feel and it was packed with young people waiting in line to enter. While waiting, we had to explain to Phillip what someone he met meant when they told him that VW has a cult following in the US. It was hard to explain because of the language barrier, but I think we helped him figure it out. On the way in, we passed a brick wall covered in chewed gum—interesting. The auditorium only held about 150 people, but the show was hilarious. It had 3 guys vs. 3 girls in improv skits with 3 judges. The show was hilarious and would have even been worth the $10 price, but we had it free from the hostel! We almost died laughing from the irony of one joke: The audience picks themes and one man mentioned VW and someone yelled “that’s a Nazi car!” All through the skit, they kept ripping on Germans and making Nazi jokes. We felt really bad for Phillip, but I think (hope) he realized it was all in good fun. Nevertheless, we were doubled over laughing at the irony of the situation.
