Trinity Hall

I went to Trinity Hall near SMU late on a Friday night with a small group of intimate friends. We were looking for a laid-back pub in which to extend the evening and celebrate a special occasion. This place fit the bill nicely.

While Trinity Hall attracts quite a crowd, our waitress was wonderful in commandeering us a table on the second floor deck (smoking is not allowed inside the pub.) It was a beautiful Texas evening, the kind that makes you want to be outside under the stars.

We quickly ordered a round of drinks. My friend was absolutely delighted to find Murphy's Stout on the menu as opposed to just Guinness. If you're hungry when you visit, you might want to also try some traditional Shepherd's Pie or hearty Lamb Stew. You'll be pleased by anything the chef puts before you, even if it's an American hamburger. The kitchen's open until 11pm.

If you would prefer, sit inside and listen to live music (Thurs-Sun nights). The interior of Trinity Hall has a rich yet comfortable feel that I found enticing. The long bar seems to extend from end to end of the open floorplan. The main room is all dark woods, bar stools, comfortable boothes and tables, an art nouveau ceiling, warm (but not oppressive) colors, a wall lined with heavy books by Irish authors . . .

If that's not enough to make you want to visit, there's the service to mention, too. It's not uncommon to talk to an Irish-brogued proprietor here who'll be infectiously charming and hospitable. Regardless, your drinks will be served up quickly and will never thereafter go dry. For instance, we were made to feel like the most important people at the restaurant as James opened a delicious bottle of sparkling wine for us and graciously kept filling the glasses around our table.

From the continual music by U2 we heard playing over the sound system to the intentional modeling of the pub after Dublin's Trinity College, this is a place that seems to bring the best of classic Ireland to north Texas for Dallasites to enjoy.

I would highly suggest Trinity Hall as part of a pub crawl or relaxing evening out with friends looking for a casual good time.
