Les Miserables

This now is one of the oldest shows on Broadway, and it doesn't have too much longer to go. After a very long history of night after night of "One Day More," the Broadway show will soon be coming to a sweet bitter end. I'm not sure just when the show is closing, but I think it's here for the next few months. The show runs 3 hours long and is a wonderful story with wonderful music--a treat for the whole family. You should go and see it, just because it is such a famous show and soon will be gone. The special effects are amazing . . . but, the last time I was in NYC, I thought the cast was just a little weak. So if you have seen it before, go see something new, but if it's your first time in NYC, do yourself a favor and go see Les Miz. See you in the dark!

I had always imagined everyone would be so dressed up and I looked forward to seeing elegant outfits, but that was the ONLY disappointing part-- there were people in jeans and fanny packs... The play was awesome and I would NOT miss it! We had planned months in advance and saved months in advance and splurged on front row seats and it was well worth it!

Les Mis is perhaps my favorite musical of all time, and when I knew for sure I would be headed back to New York, I immediately called Ticketmaster to see what tickets would be left for the shows while I was there. We got lucky and got seats second row, center stage. Having seen this show all over the world, I was looking forward to finally having the opportunity to see THE Broadway cast, and I was certainly not disappointed. The cast put on a very first rate performance that left me wanting to go back and see it again. If you're looking for a show to see on Broadway either with family or on your own, Les Mis is a fairly clean, fun show with gorgeous music and nice acting. Since it's been running for quite a while now, tickets aren't too difficult to come by (we bought ours about a month prior to leaving for the city and still got great seats). Although a bit pricier than seeing a traveling cast in your local Broadway series at home, it's worth it to see it on Broadway.

Les Miserables

If you think that all Broadway musicals are simply a montage of jazz hands, high kicks, sentimental lyrics, Hollywood-like effects, and furry felines, you are mostly correct. However, Les Miserables is a theater experience that can move even the most jaded hearts.

If you don't already know, LM is a story of love, war, and redemption set in 19th century France (please forgive the melodrama). At one point during the dramatic climax, Emily found herself sitting between two grown men weeping like babies.

Don't make the same mistake we did by paying full price. Try your luck at the discount booth TKTS located in Times Square for same day, half price tickets. The lines are long but the value is worth the wait.

So bring you hankies, grab the one you love, leave reality at the door and submerge yourself in the French Revolution!! WHOOOOOO!!!

Les Miserables is obviously a Broadway classic that has been performed for years. That's why I chose it as a show to take my family when they came to visit New York. Everyone in the family, including my sister who is a playwright, thoroughly enjoyed this production. The set was amazing, the music was very nice (although I get tired of too many songs), and the cast did a great job with some very elaborate scenes. The storyline is also a very moving, romantic story that will had the more sentimental part of the audience a little teary eyed (on more than one occasion). This was a fantastic introduction to Broadway. The only negatives, the seating is very cramped and during the cold months when you have coats the space becomes even more an issue. Also, I could have done without one or two of the songs toward the end (but I'm not a big theatre buff).
