Open late, Zac Baran 1 is a popular haunt of nearby Kyoto University students, so the atmosphere can get pretty lively. A few large tables create a good atmosphere for groups; there is more intimate seating in the basement.

The food will definitely satisfy you with large portions of salads, potato dishes, spaghetti and tofu on the large menu. Most items are a good value at under JPY1,000. For the non-Japanese speaking patron, note that the staff can get by in English. There is a good range of bottled beers, cocktails, coffees and juices, too.
