Xenon Cinema in Schöneberg is famous for its wide-ranging 2-sided programme: Since the 1995 change of ownership, the night-time programme belongs to lesbian and gay movies, and they show the latest box-office hits, as well as rarities from international festivals and lesbigay classics.
During the day, the cinema is a meeting place for local kids who come to watch the children's movies - it is this unusual mixture which is the secret of Xenon's success. As a result Xenon was awarded the 1997 programme of the year award by the Ministry of Interior as well as an award in 1998 for their excellent children's and youth programme. The colourfully mixed audience seem not to mind that the 137 seats here are not quite as comfortable as those in glittering modern palaces of high-tech cinemas. Parking is available in the bus lane in front of the cinema after 7pm.
