Vancouver Island's biggest and most enthusiastic performing-arts group is regarded as 'the cultural soul of Victoria.' Every season, this critically acclaimed troupe of 34 full-time and 25 part-time music makers performs more than 100 regular and special shows that cover opera, ballet, educational programmes, tours and community benefit concerts.
Distinguished conductors Melvin Knudsen, Hans Gruber, Otto-Werner Mueller, Laszlo Gati and Paul Freeman have wielded the batons in the past. Established in 1941, the musical ensemble is under the directorship of Peter McCoppin, one of Canada's important musical celebrities.
