Description
Named after the Swahili word for 'collective work and responsibility,' this is the only theater company in Western New York which concentrates on works by African-American and Third World playwrights and artists. On Elmwood, the multi-award-winning company has been producing provocative drama since its founding in 1978.
Recent productions, which mix Afro-Caribbean folklore, and African-American literature, song and dance, include: The Colored Museum, Robert Johnson: Trick The Devil, and Yalla Bitch!
