Description
The Basel Theatre Festival was formerly known as 'The World in Basel'. The new title is more prosaic and less pompous but nonetheless, the latter did manage to highlight one of the festival's main characteristics: it attracts fringe and independent theatre companies from all around the world. For a week in August, audiences are captivated or spured into thinking critically by the various actors that showcase their talents. Most of the action takes place in the buildings on the Kasernenareal but other theatres in the city also host plays. Tents pitched on the green at the Kaserneareal invite interested persons to enter other worlds and once culture vultures have had enough of theatre they can take advantage of one of the many culinary opportunities available.
