Teatro Bolívar

Description

This theater opened on April 15, 1933, in the heart of the historical quarter of Quito. For its opening night, the film El Signo de la Cruz, by director Cecil B. de Mille, was shown. With capacity for 2500 people, this theater was, for a long time, the biggest in the country. Up until 1970, it was an exclusive place frequented by the city's elite. Things have changed since then, mainly because people from the upper classes progressively moved to the north of the city, and also because more modern movie theaters appeared during the 1980s.
