Everything began in postwar times when a cinemascope-cinema was established in this building with 600 seats. A bizarre mixture of cinema, concerts and sporting events like boxing took place in the modest building in the heart of the city until 1985. Then the Szene-Festival, a sort of alternative to the Salzburg Festival, started with events claiming to change to avantgarde and experiment in art, music, dance, theatre, concerts, and cabaret. Events have taken place throughout the year here since 1993. The mixture of events offers a lot of opportunities to be entertained in the true sense of the word and to get an overview of different contemporary areas of art.
