Before coming to San Francisco, a friend of mine suggested we go to see Beach Blanket Babylon. I was a little unsure, but looked at it on the Web. Once I saw the pictures, I knew my group would absolutely love it. You can check it out for yourself at www.beachblanketbabylon.com.
We reserved our tickets online and chose the Front Cabaret section for about $45 per person. This was a great section to sit in and we had awesome views. I don't think the Back Cabaret would have been as good. The rules were that the doors opened 1 hour before showtime, and there were no reserved seats, just guaranteed seats in the section you purchased. I would suggest that you get there early like we did. The place was packed with people, and the line had started to form even before the 1-hour time mark.
The show itself is performed cabaret style and focuses on current events in both entertainment and politics. Each performance is marked by ever-increasing over-the-top performances and increasing head wear. It was really funny, and my group very much enjoyed it. The show was so much fun for all of us. I don't think there was a single one of us who made it through without tears running down our faces from laughing so hard.
Beach Blanket Babylon has been playing in San Francisco for 30 years, and is constantly being updates. It was a ton of fun for all the adults present. The show was current and made fun of everyone, from King Louis of France to Elvis to George W. Bush to Tom Cruise. It was great!
As a side note, except for matinees, no one under the age of 21 is admitted because alcohol is available for purchase during the evening performances.
I would definitely go back and see this show again! It was loads of fun and didn't take itself too seriously. The performers did a great job and the costumes were truly amazing!

This is a wonderful show which is presented Wednesday through Saturday nights, with two Sunday matinees. Adults only for the evening shows - 21 and over and ID required. Beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks, and snacks are offered. Sunday matinees are open to all, and the show is edited to be acceptable for children. The show is colorful, very funny, and has very unusual costuming and acts. The show is famous for its colorful and unique head coverings. The show has run continuously for 32 years, with every show a sell-out. Advance reservations are imperative, and tickets are available by telephone or online. Internet website is great: www.beachblanketbabylon.com. If visiting San Francisco, don't miss it!

Beach Blanket Babylon

This show came highly recommended by a number of my online buddies and my brother and sister-in-law. The show is very colorful and funny. You could tell some of the show is standard, but some is based on current events. The hats and "hair pieces" were outrageous! We booked by phone, had excellent seats and paid $55/person. I would recommend the activity (to adults and maybe older teenagers) my only gripe was having to wait in the freezing cold for 45 minutes before they opened the doors.

It is a MUST! Delightful, Charming and Indescribable! The outrageous costumes, the wit, the intimate feel. No wonder, like the energizer bunny it goes on and on.

Hmmm, trying to describe this show is not that easy! Okay, I'll steal a line from their website and say it's a "zany musical spoof of pop culture with extravagant costumes and outrageously huge hats." There's a reason it's in its 28th year...the performers are quite talented and the hats are unlike anything you've ever seen. They don't allow cameras inside the building and it's easy to see why. It's a hilarious show well worth attending. To get a feel for it, go to www.beachblanketbabylon.com
