Stadttheater

Description

Art Nouveau architecture did not leave much of a mark on Lübeck, with one notable exception: the Stadttheater (municipal theatre), built in 1908 by Martin Dülfer. While the exterior is a no-frills example of German simplicity and practicality, the interior is an orgy of blue and gold, decorated with fairytale-like ornaments and chandeliers. The building houses three stages which put on pieces ranging from elaborately produced operas to simple one-man plays. The programme of events is published in the theatre magazine SpielZeit and in the local press.
