One of my favourite Halifax pubs

When Halifax was founded in 1749, a tavern was opened and called the Spread Eagle. Because of the sign, a double eagle, it was nicknamed the Split Crow. In the late 1970s, not on the same location as the original "Crow", the current Split Crow was opened and it's been a mainstay ever since. It's a traditional sort of pub, with a bar in the centre, a small stage, and several floor levels though only a few steps between them and only a few tables on the main ground level. There is also a private room in the lower level where the toilets are. Thus, though it is accessible for mobility challenged people, you won't be able to get to the loo!

The menu contains the usual pub grub but also some good seafood choices including shark which isn't on many menus locally. They do a weekend brunch as well and have a few branded items for sale including tshirts and hats. It's a very popular spot and the music is always rousing, usually Celtic/Irish/Sea shanties that have the crowds singing along and dancing wherever they can find floorspace.

There's an outdoor patio in summer and I can't say enough for the wait staff, zipping around with trays of beer balanced over their heads. Although it gets crowded with the university and younger set, I find it comfortable for us wrinklies too and it seems to be popular with cruise visitors and sailors that are visiting as well.
