Then go to the Basement! Those cabaret tables down the front may be great if you want a meal which is by all accounts average, and you like to enjoy music by sitting still and clapping in the right places like you are at the Opera House, but the rest of the crowd is forced into the thoroughfare areas around the bar, from which you can't see a thing, and are pushed and pumelled from every angle as barstaff and punters scrambling for a sight of the musicians they have paid to see move through. The wood-panelling does have some ambience, but being forced to look at it because the stage isn't visible wears a bit thin after a while. Fortunately it is covered with pictures of past acts; I'm assuming this is so that the Basement can ensure that you have been able to see some musicians, even if it hasn't been in the flesh. Be careful not to disturb the view of those seated; their line of sight to the stage is sacrosanct while yours is most definately not worth considering. Don't dance when you come here; apparently it is not allowed - we witnessed one patron thrown out who had dared to venture too close to the table covered dancefloor. If this is one of Sydney's premier nightspot then Sydney has one horrible nightlife.
