Shakespeare's Globe Theater

I bought a ticket for Hamlet at the Globe at around noon on the day of the show. They had sold out of the seats, but the theater had plenty of standing room. The standing tickets were only five pounds, the downside being that I had to stand up through all three hours of Hamlet. It was a spectacular show. The actors were extremely talented, and the sold-out house was completely enthralled by the show. If you're not able to stand for 3 hours in one spot, I would get tickets a day or two ahead of time and get seats, which are around twenty pounds, but worth the price for a great show. I only saw Hamlet, but I am sure any of the shows would be well worth the time and money. It is also a beautiful theater.

Shakespeare's Globe Theater

The recently restored Globe Theatre, located at the original site of Shakespeare's Globe, offers you the chance to view authentic recreations of Shakespeare's plays. Plays are performed during the day, as they were in Shakespeare's time, due to the fact that there was no electricity to provide lighting. Since the seats were all sold out, we were forced to associate with the other peasants and become groundlings, as they called those with standing-room tickets. Despite the difficulty of standing through the rather long performance, we certainly had the best view as we were treated to a tale of thwarted love, Antony and Cleopatra. Be forewarned that all the roles are played by men. While there, be sure to go on the tour of the theater and its backstage area; the guides will provide you with invaluable information about the history of theater.
