Even though I wouldn't describe this saloon as charming, it probably was the funnest place we went to while in Savannah. Savannah Smiles is the kind of bar that you go to because of the atmosphere, not because of the drinks or the cleanliness.
We went there because a friend suggested it to us. He said that the dueling pianos were simply hilarious, and we are definitely glad we followed the advice! The dueling pianos were so much fun, we went back there twice. The concept is pretty basic: there are two grand pianos facing each other, and all the two pianists do all night is playing songs requested by the audience and crack jokes.
The two guys are incredibly good: they knew every song we asked them, and they also had a great sense of humor. Time flied, and we found ourselves going back for more the next night.
Drinks are very cheap, too, both beer and liquor.
Overall, I'd say that these two guys were the best dueling piano players I've ever seen: funny, talented, and with great entertaining and communication skills. It's hard to go there and not feel like part of the party. Enjoy!
