Rum Jungle

Rum Jungle is a sight to see. Even though we were married in Vegas, we have been back since and went back to Rum Jungle the second time. Of course, being that it is in Mandalay Bay and is at the end of the Strip, I think a lot of people never go that far, which is a shame. Go to Rum Jungle at about 8:30 to 9pm and there will be no cover charge. At about 10pm is when the dance floor in the back opens up and, well, the Jungle springs to life. Don't get me wrong, I love the selections of endless meats served to you straight from the skewer and, of course, the wall of every kind of rum imaginable. But being able to do that, then rest, and then dance into the wee hours of the morning, now that is Vegas! So, if you don't feel like walking all the way down to Mandalay Bay, take a shuttle or do it right and get a limo. Or just get married to the one you love!

The atmosphere of the place was pretty nice, with bright lights and cool colors. Coming into the place there is a wall of water, like a waterfall, emptying in to a little pool (not for swimming). Around the bar area is the infamous wall of different rums from around the wall where they serve their special rum drinks. It was a bit expensive so I didn't bother trying one. There were dancers inside huge balls hanging from the ceiling. They were dressed in skimpy white clothing that glowed under the UV lights. During shift change, they would come down by sliding down several ropes and then hoisted their replacement back up, which always got a cheer from the crowd.

The music composed off top 40, Latin house music and techno. It isn't bad music, but the combination sounded so I couldn't get into it. They mixed new music with old music background and added all kinds of beats to it. The beats came from guys beating huge techno sounding conga drums. They beat them in all kinds of odd positions while dancing a bit and were pretty fun to watch.

You mostly end up standing unless you’re lucky enough to get a seat at the bar, which was crowded most of the night. There were some seats on the side but they fill up quickly. Somehow one of my friends talked a bouncer into letting her sit in the reserved table area so she could rest her feet. She ended up making friends with a large group of guys that were at a couple tables. So we all got to enjoy the reserved seats and got some free drinks too. I'm not sure how much the tables were, but I heard one of the guys say they paid $500 for one bottle of Grey Goose vodka!

It's a cool place to check out if you like the music, but I had more fun watching the acrobatics.

After we finished our drinks at Red Square we moved next door to rumjungle, one of the nightclubs at Mandalay Bay. Since my sister was staying there we got priority and didn’t have to wait in line. Even though it was Monday night the cover was still $20 a person. Must have been due to spring break because it’s supposed to be $10 on Mondays. That’s when my mom took off and left us "youngins" to party.

Even though I am only 30 and that’s a bit young, it was OLD for that place! The bar itself is beautiful and fun. They have all sorts of waterfall effects and the main bar is up very high with hundreds of bottles of alcohol which is all back lit. On the top of that is a type of stage that some type of go-go girls were dancing in white bikinis and they had black light on them so they glowed in the dark. The place was packed. We squeezed all the way through to the back and then they wouldn’t let us on the dance floor with drinks (which actually makes sense). So we stood up in the front and talked and finished our drinks. They have rum specialties there but it was way too crowded to find out what they were. I would go back for dinner sometime because the club doesn’t open until 11pm and it was really a pretty place. And I love rum! Some of the other left and when our group got down to four we went back out on the dance floor to kick up our heels. I didn''t know too many of the songs. There were two guys banging on what appeared to be electronic congos. They were playing along to the music making the beats more intense. It was a great place to check out, but not worth the $20 since I couldn''t get a special rum drink and couldn''t realate to the music.

It was one of the slower nights at Rumjungle. I liked the music when we entered the club, but the music later on wasn't the kind I normally dance to (but then again, I don't really dance). They do have two live drummers who play along with the music, which is kind of interesting. And, of course, there are the go-go dancers in their little birdcages high above. It was interesting to see them change shifts. Not much going on the night we went, but it looked like on a busier night it could probably be a happening club. Rumjungle serves food up until the time it opens for clubbers, though I'm not sure when the cut-off time for diners is.

On your way in, be sure to check out Aureole, one of the restaurants in Mandalay Bay near Rumjungle. It features a four-story wine tower and the infamous "Wine Angels," who scale the tower to get your bottle of wine.

Well I can say the wait was definitely worth it. The line moved pretty well and being a group of all girls didn't hurt. The music was awesome. On the downside, this place gets really packed and you need to order a bottle of something to get a table. If this a place you really want to see, then stay at the Mandalay Bay, they have a seperate line for hotel guests.
