Although not on par with the Palms or Hard Rock when it comes to atmosphere, it’s still a fun place to gamble. This place gets big extra points for having an ESPN Zone restaurant/bar where you can watch any sport you want, while grubbing down on some very good bar food and drinking a beer. The gaming area is usually pretty crowded, although with much less of the younger set that you see at Hard Rock or the Palms. It’s lively and fun with the dealers usually getting into the whole Vegas spirit. Another bonus is that they have TVs strategically placed throughout the casino so you can follow the best sporting events while playing some blackjack.

Roller Coaster at New York Hotel & Casino

Roller Coaster at New York Hotel & Casino

This roller coaster begins inside the New York Casino/Hotel on the strip. You get in your "taxi" and off you go. Soon you're outside in the Vegas sun and wind, far from New York! But the architecture and icons are with you; sometimes they're upside down, but they're there! Several loops and drops make this a thrill ride, so don't be fooled into thinking it's mild -- it isn't! I would rate this a 4 out of 5 (we rode it three times).

As usual, remove loose objects (hats, glasses, cameras) and hang on. There is a photo booth as you exit and the pictures come in a nifty souvenir card frame – the price was reasonable too. There isn't a real "viewing" area for those who don't take part in the ride -- you just gather near the exit area and wait.

New York/New York Las Vegas

This could have been in New York. It was a bit crowded. It was a bit noisy. It had lots of food cafes and little shops where one could get hot dogs and ethnic dishes. It was busy. Then there was the roller coaster that began inside and went outside the building with views of the city of Vegas. Roller coaster was pricey at about $12.50 for one ride. We passed that up. We had lunch and it was good.

However, New York is not my favorite place. Casinos were off in one area and this was all separate. However, after the Venetian and Paris, this was too noisy, too crowded, and not romantic at all. Wasn't my kind of thing.

New York, New York is a really fun casino. It's really fun to stay at New York, only because you actually get to stay in one of the skyline buildings! There's a roller coaster coming out the roof of the casino. This is really a great place to hang with family and also a very classy place to lay down some money at some tables! You will want to stop into a little bit of the Big Apple in Vegas!

One of the most recognizable aspects of strip architecture is the NYNY skyline. Conceptually it's a great exterior and the interior is well done, though it's beginning to show wear. The best time to see it is just after sunrise, when the quality of light is warm and the shadows show it to good effect.
