Automatic Slims is not the tourist traps as other clubs around South Beach can be. This bar is equipped with '80s, '90s, and today's rock music, although the '80s rock tends to be more prevalent. The highlights have to be when a well-known '80s song hits the speakers and it has everyone in the bar singing along at the top of their lungs.
Nothing is held back here, waitresses get up on the bar in their Catholic skirts to pour liquor in the mouths of patrons along the way, a dance pole is equipped for any willing volunteer, and with themed nights like Dare Night, you will be sure to see some interesting spectacles.
Automatic Slims isn't the roomiest bar, but what bar is? Bars are meant to be cramped, so you have to strike up conversations with that guy stepping on your foot. You are bound to meet a few interesting characters here, a young wealthy Isrealite looking for a good time, a local cable guy hanging at his favorite bar, a German man who speaks broken English, or member of an up-and-coming rock band who is playing DJ for the night (I was able to meet all four in one night).
The drinks are typically priced for South Beach and they do serve food. But Automatic Slims is for those looking to rock out with a couple of drinks and some interesting people.
