Description
A lively and colourful aspect of Montserrat's culture can be seen in the tradtional Masquerade dancing groups. The Masquerades perform on the street and on the stage at the Year-end Festival, St. Patrick's Day, and other special occasions, shows and functions.
The groups consist of around seven (usually male) dancers featuring quaint costumes, tall head-dresses, masks and whips, who perform the traditional steps to the sound of fife and drums. This blending of African and European elements helps keep the old traditions alive.
