Hornblower Cruise

As part of our Valentine's weekend trip, we took the Valentine's Day brunch cruise on the Hornblower Cruise line, which left from Pier 33 on Fisherman's wharf.

The brunch buffet was a full buffet, which included items such as waffles, fresh fruit, eggs, as well as a carving station and several selections of pasta. Champagne and mimosas were also included. The price was $85/pp.

There was live piano entertainment throughout the duration of the cruise and there was even a small wedding party on board.

Guests were immediately seated, served champagne as the boat left the port, and were advised to go to the buffet.

The piano entertainer did a good job of pointing out the sights as the boat traveled along. Although we had an inner table, we could see out the windows and see the attractions.

My first disappointment involved the Golden Gate Bridge. We had barely sat down with our food as we were nearing the bridge. I made a bad assumption that we would travel under the bridge and pause for pictures, so we missed a good photo opportunity. The boat went the bridge and then immediately backtracked around Alcatraz. It was a nice ride around Alcatraz and you ended up seeing Alcatraz from every angle, based on the Hornblower pass. The boat continued under the bay bridge and you got a nice view of the city, the piers, and the new ballpark.

We spent the majority of the cruise outside once we had finished our meal and enjoyed seeing the sights.

Although it was a nice trip, we are not big drinkers, and so in hindsight, for us, it would have been more economical to take a separate tour without the brunch.

For those looking for romance, it was very nice and they even offered a package upgrade to surprise your special someone with a gift and rose at your seat.

There were a few families with children, but unless they are well behaved, they would be out of place on this type of cruise.

It would be fun to take the Hornblower on a dinner dancing cruise. The city must look awesome at night, as I assume the bridges would. There were a few people who did dance during our cruise, but at 10:30am, it’s not as fun as 10:30 at night.

I might take a Hornblower cruise again, but I'll have to see. . .
