This has to be the biggest club in Toronto. Guvernment has been going 9 years strong now and doesn't show any signs of giving up. Guvernment has been routinely rated as one of the top nightclubs in the world by the many artists that have come through there as well as top rated music magazines.
Guvernment consists of many rooms. The main room features a great sound system by Steve Dash. One of the top rated sound systems in north america. Also outstanding lighting and lasers. The Orange room is quite nice archetectually and gives you the feeling of being in a 60s timewarp a la austin powers. But in an even cooler way. The Koolhaus is a massive concert venue that is only open for special events.
Friday night at Guvernment is hop hop. But the big night is saturday. This is the night that the club is most recognized for. It's resident DJ Mark Oliver spins the latest ground breaking house and techno music. Complimented by some of the most famous artists in the electronic DJ world such as Carl Cox, Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten. If you like electronic music, this is the place to be on a saturday night.
Cover is a very reasonable CDN$10 before 12 and CDN$15 after. For special nights with guest djs, the price could be a bit higher. As far as pricing goes, on the world stage this place is bargain basement. For the talent and the club that you get you'd likely pay €50 for a club like this in europe or asia.
This club goes till 7 am and my only complaint is the ridiculous canadian (ontario) last call which means no drinks can be served past 2 am. I really wish we could get a more progressive government who would let adults think for themselves instead of restricting their drinking hours!
