Slainte Irish Bar

Slainte aims to replicate what an upscale Irish pub would be like in Ireland. What it feels like is a replicate of an upscale Irish pub. The Irish folk music played inside is also pumped through speakers onto the street. You know those fun Irish bands that play all those crazy songs and get wild and out of control? Yeah, don't expect them here. The live music that does play is almost identical to the pre-programmed folk music throughout the day. And don't expect to find anyone getting rowdy or out of control in here. What you will find is a dress code (no torn jeans or hats to be worn--that includes your winter beanie) and a lot of polished wood.

You walk into, well, empty space. Even when it's crowded it really doesn't feel packed. That's because everyone has a seat off to the side, at a table or at the bar, and there is usually no one standing in the middle (even when the band pays). The chairs are wooden, the tables are wooden, and the bar, that's wooden, too, and unlike other Irish pubs, Slainte is brightly lit.

Slainte is Irish for cheers, but with the high drink prices, there is little to cheer about. The wine and whiskey list is extensive compared to the other bars in the area, and, of course, Guinness and cider are on tap. But a pint will run you about $7. Wine by the glass is $5 to $9.

Some saving features include the meals and outdoor seating. Try the stew or the corned beef. Mostly all the meals are $15 or less, and you will not walk away hungry. Slainte also sets (wooden) benches and tables outside for those who enjoy the afternoon sun. Oh, and most of the bar staff is 100% Irish. Hours are noon to midnight daily.
