25 Questions for a Jewish Mother

  • January 4, 2007
  • Rated 4 of 5 by Ishtar from Bayside, New York
Tuesday night is perfect for an off-Broadway production like this, as you can drive into Manhattan from Queens without too much concern about choking in traffic. It's also very delicious when you can get $65/seats for half price. Here I am going to give away one of my best secrets, all in the name of culture. Go to Broadway Box and have a blast looking through the offerings. Both my daughter and I happen to love Judy Gold, and we've seen her on HBO and Comedy Central a few times. Seeing her live was a bonus, because we had front row seats. Imagine the luck!

The show is not geared for Jewish mothers only; I think all mothers/daughters will find it hilarious as so many of the cliches apply, and transcend religious borders. It's a 90 solo presentation without intermission, so keep this in mind if you are thirsty, hungry, or any other adverb.

St. Lukes falls under the category of intimate theaters, and was the venue for the eternally running "Tony and Tina's Wedding". It is operated by Edmund Gaynes and the West End Artists' Company. It's in the heart of the theater district and is surrounded by cafes, bars, and eateries to accommodate any palate.

Below are some links for you to find out more about the play, the protagonist, other "Jewish" fun things and co-writer Kate Moira Ryan:

Jewcy - art and Jewry in modern day life.

There is an underlying strong message here not to be missed (you can hardly miss it, even if you were blind, deaf and dumb), and that is that lesbians are mothers too; they're clever, successful, and use comedy as a catharsis. (i.e. Rosie O'Donnell, Ellen DeGeneres). As a matter of fact, Judy wrote and produced Rosie O'Donnell's show for which she bagged two Emmies. Her other awards would go beyond the word count for this entry, so you'll have fun finding out for yourself.
