The Big Texan/ Historic Route 66

Two things we did not get to do on our trip to Amarillo, that would have been neat to see were Route 66 and the Big Texan. I will first start with the Big Texan.
The Big Texan
The Big Texan is a restaurant outside of town a little. This restaurant is known for its steaks and down home Texas cooking food. One of the things The Big Texas is famous for is the big Texan, a 72 oz. steak. For $50 you get a 72 oz steak, a baked potato, a shrimp cocktail, and a salad. If you eat everything in one hour or less you get your meal for free. Remember I have not been there so I cannot say I have ever seen anyone do it. I have heard stories, and my husband had been there a few times. I hear the food is pretty good and The Big Texas is a must when you come to Amarillo. I hope the next time we go through there we will be able to stop and eat.
Route 66
The famous Route 66 goes right trough Amarillo. More than getting your kicks, you can enjoy over one mile of antiques, restaurants, clubs and shopping along this stretch of the original Route 66. Amarillo is the largest Texas City on the state’s 170+ mile length of Route 66. It is located along 6th Avenue between Georgia and Western streets. The Cadillac Ranch is also along this stretch of the road. If you like a little bit of history take a drive down this road. Once again something I hope to get to do on our next trip to Amarillo.
So like I said just a few more places I would recommend and encourage, since I did not get to experience them. My in-laws live there and we should have several more trips to visit in the future. I will continue to bring you updates as we explore more.
