Duffy's Love Shack

Located right across the street from the ferry dock in Red hook is one of the best things that St. Thomas has to offer; Duffy’s Love Shack (http://www.duffysloveshack.com/). Located right in the center of a small strip mall parking lot, this small, open shack is a drinker’s hotspot. On many nights, rain or moonshine, this place is packed to the gills with happy drinkers covered in leis and reeking of rum goodness.
I went here with my brother and sister-in-law right before there wedding (a small bachelor/bachelorette party combo thing) and we got blitzed. The different drinks there are amazing, ranging from about $6 to about $16 per drink and refills are between about $4 and about $12 (you get to keep the cup). My favorite drink here is the Surf’s Up Mai-Tai. I am a big Mai-Tai and this thing doesn’t disappoint. But the night in question (the pre wedding party) we all split a Shark Tank drink. I have no idea what is really in this thing, but IF you can finish one of these, you are guaranteed to end up sleeping with the fat chick in the bar, or the ugly guy in the corner if you are a female, because this drink just puts you right over the edge. I have yet to finish one of these, but have seen people down them to the last ice cube and their night ends right then and there or at least the part they remember.
Now one of the best aspects of Duffy’s, besides the fact that you get smashed and get to keep your cups, is the fact that you get lei when you are there. For each drink you purchase, you are given a sticker that says I Got Lei’d At Duffy’s and a bright, colorful lei. It really makes the drinking atmosphere that much more fun and entertaining. You can sit outside (in the parking lot, mind you) and get smashed there, or head inside to the bar and drink there while watching either hoards of Navy men or drunken tourists dance their asses off on the dance floor.
I love Duffy’s so much and was severely disheartened when they closed their location on St. John and someone else replaced with a place that is highly ridden with crime and rapes (I forget the name, but it on the other side of the ferry terminal in St. John) so don’t go there. But, this Love Shack has stayed going strong and will for many years to come. I hope that you enjoy Duffy’s as much as I do and as much as others have, but beware of the Shark Tank; its deadly.
