Description
On a quiet side street amid the madness of London's West End, stands one of the capital's most elegant Mexican cantinas, like a proud salsero smart and august, revealing a fiery Latin spirit and energetic heart when the music starts. The spacious restaurant is dressed up in faux colonial Spanish style, with an imposing domed ceiling, tropical vegetation and typically tiled surroundings. Dining takes place upstairs accompanied by subtle South American sounds, that is until the salsa features as strongly on the dance floor as on the menu when the floor show takes off. Comprising a well-balanced selection of old favourites like fajitas, authentic and fresh accompaniments like guacamole, along with more experimental, exotic dishes like jalapeno stuffed veal or blackened tuna with peach salsa, the restaurant displays a cultivated innovation, deserving of the slightly higher than average prices for Mexican fare.
The clientele is made up of office partygoers and visiting out-of-towners, but it is worth taking the time to try it out. Mexican musicians and dancers perform Wednesday to Saturday at 7pm and 10pm.
