We Will Rock You

After our Beatles Walk, we headed to Dominion Theatre, to watch "We Will Rock You," the musical with songs written by Queen. We had been able to get discounted tickets that morning from one of the many discounted-ticket sellers.

The musical was a blast. I had watched the musical before, in Las Vegas, but watching the original version made her see how much the US production had altered the original script to bring it to Las Vegas! (One of the key scenes of the musical is supposed to happen in Wembley Stadium; in the Las Vegas version, the scene was situated in in Graceland instead!).

We paid 30 GBP per ticket (inclusive of the booking fee). Tickets sold on the same day of the show are usually discounted.

To get to the Dominion Theatre, take the Tube at the Tottenham Court Road station. Performances are at 7:30pm from Monday to Saturday, with a 2:30pm matinée on Saturdays.

We Will Rock You

This has to be my all-time favorite show. The plot is much like Mama Mia - there isn’t one, but the music is incredible and the show is visually stunning. There are no words to describe my experiences with this show.

The show takes place in the future, where real music is dead and all computer created. A few people have escaped the corporate brainwashing and live in the tube. They all have funny names, like Madonna, Bob the Builder, Cher, ect. They have read the names in books but do not know who the people are. The quest for the music finally leads them to Wimbledon, singing “We are the Champions.” It must be the longest curtain call ever with “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

This show also has LED video screens that fly around on the stage and a huge rotating table that goes over the audience at one point. The music gets loud, so I do not suggest taking young children or grandparents.

This was one of the most entertaining musicals that I have seen. Even if you are just a casual fan of the great 70's and 80's band Queen, you'll love this show that features many of the band's best known tunes. By the end of the show everybody in the audience is standing and cheering. The entertaining plot is a warning on how much of today's music is manufactured by image consultants and not the heart felt rock and roll of the past and how a group of "Bohemians" is trying to revive rock and roll even though it is against the law. You'll love the Bohemian's names if you're a pop music fan.
