d.b.a. is a trendy East Village nightspot posing as an authentic pub. The best thing about this place is the availability of genuine English cask ales (one of the few places in NYC where you can get a real pulled pint) and, although the place has a wide choice of high-end brews. I tried my fist (and last) Barley wine here. Be prepared to see and be seen here and if you’re not early, be prepared to stand. I haven’t been back since the surly bouncer prevented my entry one night because my friend didn’t have a driver’s license. He was 29 at the time and no baby face. He lived in New York since birth, thus he never needed a driver’s license. The experience left a sour taste in my mouth, but if you are in the neighborhood and looking to meet people, its worth a try.
