Vernet les Bains has a wide range of eating and drinking places. There is even a casino with a smart bar, restaurant, and disco.

The PMU bar is at the other end of the scale, friendly and welcoming. It's very pleasant outside, with perhaps a un-smart inside, but the people are still friendly. See www.grandcafedelapaix.com.

It's a good place to meet locals and travellers. Sit outside and watch life go by (even the Canigou Race on the first Sunday of August), pop in for breakfast, unwind at tea time, or chew the fat in the evening. Some snacks are available all the time. The landlord likes to practise his English but will also let you speak in French.
