Description
Utrecht is a university town with a lot of students, so there's a lively night scene and a wide choice of bars and pubs. The main concentrations of bars are a few squares and streets which I will sum up below. All the places are within walking distance from the Station and there are night trains from Utrecht to Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den Haag.
Het Wed: Het Wed is a small square below the Domtoren. Many students go to this place, especially on 'students evenings': Thursday night. In the summer, this is a nice place to sit down and have a drink in the afternoon. It is very close to the Oudegracht, the shopping center of the town.
Neude: Neude is a great place if the sun is shining, because it has fantastic terraces. On Koninginnedag (30th of april) it is a big lunapark. There's a Belgian cafe with very many different beers to check out.
Janskerkhof: this is a gathering of a variety of cafes. There are student pubs, cafes where you can eat, but also a standup comedy bar, which often has guest performances of foreign comedians.
Nobelstraat: located here are a few bars that remain open until very late (4 or some even 6 a.m.). There's also a good shoarmashop that is open all night long, till 7 in the morning.
