New Year's was spent in the Hongik University area. We went to a hip-hop nightclub called NB. Admission and drink prices are the same as Kali. The girls CAN'T DANCE! They look like they were having a temper tantrums! Oh, and they were all wearing jackets! It was FREAKIN' HOT inside! IT was not diverse. Too bad they're all young. Hongdeh is a great place to visit for young Korean folks! It's all college students. There were more places to visit, such as jazz bars. It's known as "Picasso Alley." There are a lot of those in this area. But, like I mentioned in "Itaewon" journal, if you don't look Korean, don't visit this place. It's off-limits for US military, and that includes any Americans.

Itaewon used to be the happening place for foreigners to go bar hopping, but now it is mostly full of hostess bars. There are a few night clubs left, one is in the basement of the Hamilton Hotel. So, so. There is a Country-Western club which has stood the test of time (ten years!). And there is the UN club. Pretty much, that's it in Itaewon. Now, the happening place is Hongdae. Just hop in a taxi and tell the driver "Hongdae... Night" (as in "Night Club"). Every fourth Friday there is Club Night, and there is one cover charger for ALL the clubs in the area. Cool! But, the area is PACKED on club night! And it tends to be a younger crowd, like university students.
