I recommend visiting the Otaru Beer area located in the basement of the TV Tower. They produce some great German-style beers, available on tap or sold in small glass bottles. Their cheap monthly party held on the last Friday of the month is a relaxed and enjoyable place to meet both the local Japanese and expats’ families. During the Sapporo Beer Festival, Otaru Beer open a few weeks before the whole event kicks off in late July. The Beer festival is one of Sapporo's major events with the Odori Park area being converted into one huge outdoor beer garden-an excellent place to relax and people watch,listen to music and of course sample a range of local and major brewery beers.
