Located on the same strip of Ocean Drive as Mango's, it's no real surprise that the Clevelander is a straight-up spring break hook-up joint. But this is not to say it isn't fun. In the past two times I've been to Miami, I've been to the Clevelander both times. The first time, it was in March about a year ago and packed with the typical spring break crew. The second time was in January, on a Sunday night, and it was slow and not packed, but with the same crew. There were about 15 people on the dance floor, grinding, high-school style, to Top 40 hits and hip-hop.
That said--why did I go back? And why would I argue that this place isn't so bad? It's fun and entertaining for people-watching and has a real big outdoor space (at least three bars that I can think of, plus a swimming pool) and a DJ that plays those catchy hits that everyone plays along to. Drinks are pretty cheap, and they have the usual line-up of beer and hard alcohol. Go here knowing what to expect and you can have a good time, but go here first, and then go somewhere else down the road or a few blocks away--that is, unless you're looking for an easy 1-night hook-up.
